2014 is the 20th Anniversary of the International Year of the Family – a good time to take stock of what families need, what we are doing well, and what we can do better so that all of us benefit. Join us this year for the International Year of the Family Speaker Series, sponsored by the University of Guelph's College of Social and Applied Human Sciences.
The fifth speaker in the series is S. Bear Bergman a renowned queer transgender author and storyteller. His presentation is titled "Gathering Light: A Suite of Stories about Creating Family." For more information view the event poster.
S. Bear Bergman's presentation focuses on family. How we create it and nurture it, whether our family is original, chosen, or a hearty blend. Renowned queer transgender author and storyteller S. Bear Bergman's stories describe and exalt the lives of his grandparents, the hilarity of planning his wedding, his Shabbos table, and the story of Chanukah. At the same time, they make space for our drag mothers, step-parents emeritus, sperm donor's parents, spuncles and sparkles. You'll laugh, you'll cry, you'll call your mother.
