2014 is the 20th Anniversary of the International Year of the Family – a good time to take stock of what families need, what we are doing well, and what we can do better so that all of us benefit. Join us this year for the International Year of the Family Speaker Series, sponsored by the University of Guelph's College of Social and Applied Human Sciences.

Pain in Children: Painful Medical Procedures and Caregivers

Featuring Dr. Meghan McMurtry, Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychology.

This talk will explore the science of ouchies - in particular, what happens when children and teenagers have important needle procedures such as immunizations and blood draws. Cutting edge research on the best way for caregivers to help children when they are afraid and in pain will be reviewed and some of the findings may surprise you! Family/clinician-friendly tips and resources will be provided.
