A survey of 164 Canadian employers suggests that as many as two-thirds of employees work more than regular full-time hours each week. In the  survey, conducted this past April by global human resources company Hewitt Associates, respondents reported that only about one in three of their employees consistently work the standard full-time week of 35 to 40 hours.

• 45% of employees work an extra 5 hours most weeks

• 23% work between 5 and ten hours extra

• 1% of employees work 10 - 15 additional hours each week

The survey also revealed that most companies offer options such as flex time, telecommuting, compressed work week, sabbaticals and extra paid personal time to help employees balance their working and family lives.
